During this difficult time for us all we have decided to continue providing Tour Services as long as possible during the current outbreak of The Corona Virus.

Our vehicles are always regularly serviced and cleaned but we will be taking extra precautions during The Corona Virus outbreak.  All the vehicle door handles, seat belts and other points of contact are being sanitized before, during and after each tour.  Sanitized wipes will be provided for you in our vehicles.

We understand, and appreciate, that many people will have justifiable reservations about booking a tour and yet want to be able to tour with us on arrival in Ireland so we are making temporary changes to our booking arrangements.  We are only taking a deposit of €75 regardless of the size of the vehicle or the duration of the tour. For bookings made on or after March 19th, 2020 that subsequently need to cancel because of Corona Virus we will refund 90% of the deposit provided we receive a minimum of 72 hours notice of cancellation. We will make a refund to you, or at your discretion hold the full deposit against a future booking.

Maam Cross has a big October Fair where all manner of goods are for sale from ducks, hens and rabbits to donkeys, ponies and horses as well as the usual fair day stalls.

Maam Cross is a settlement on a crossroads surrounded by mountains and lakes and buzzing with local life and character. Peacocks Complex is the hub of activity in this wild Connemara bog, offering sophisticated accommodation and refreshment amidst local activity and customs which have lasted down through the centuries from sheep farmers making deals at the bar counter to sheep and pony fairs outside on the crossroads throughout the year. Culminating in the big October Fair where all manner of goods are for sale from ducks, hens and rabbits to donkeys, ponies and horses as well as the usual fair day stalls.

When you tire of haggling for your purchases you can retire indoors to the relaxing surround of Peacocks bar, restaurant and hotel.

The area around Maam Cross is largely bogland, a type of peaty marsh from which "Turf" is harvested to provide domestic fuel. The You Tube link at the foot of the page, while not filmed in this area, gives a great insight into turf harvesting.

"Quiet Man" Replica Cottage at Maam Cross

There is a replica of the traditional Irish cottage used in the filming of "The Quiet Man" movie. This classic movie was filmed on location in Connemara and starred John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara with, amongst others, Barry Fitzgerald, Ward Bond and Victor McLaglen in supporting rolls. The Quiet Man was directed by John Ford who won an Oscar for best director. Admission is free.

"Not wanting to do the typical "bus tour" of Ireland, and not wanting to drive on the left, I booked a tour with Ireland West Tours. We hiked to remote churches, visited little known Tower houses/castles...all things that our amazing guide, Paul, was able to recommend. This was worth every single penny."

Satisfying the customer

Over the years we have had several compliments on our drivers from many of our satisfied customers. Click on the link to "Tripadvisor" below to read, in full, the reviews of some of our many happy customers.

"While some travellers may think of this as an expensive option, a driver allows you to see so much more than a tour bus would, is relaxing, personalized and gets you off of the beaten path. Jim is a gentleman and a professional."
